Resumo
O objetivo do presente texto é compreender os fatores responsáveis pelo processo de constituição, pesquisa e comunicação das coleções de arte. Posteriormente à análise de algumas instituições brasileiras – Museu de Arte da São Paulo (MASP) e Inhotim, o estudo é especificamente direcionado ao Museu de Arte da Pampulha (MAP), colocando em perspectiva os elementos caracterizadores da coleção, caso das doações empreendidas pelo mecenas Assis Chateaubriand e pelas obras incorporadas anualmente através dos Salões de arte realizados pelo próprio museu. O primeiro como fator inicial de formação da coleção e o segundo, firmado como principal alternativa para sua ampliação. O artigo versa especificamente sobre as relações existentes entre a prática museal, os aspectos de construção da história da arte e a definição do valor artístico para os objetos.

Abstract
The aim of this text is to understand the responsible factors for the process of constitution, research and communication of the art collections. After the analysis of some brazilian institutions – Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) and Inhotim, the study is specifically directed to the Museu de Arte da Pampulha (MAP), putting in perspective the elements that characterize the collection, the donations carried out by maecenas Assis Chateaubriand and by the works incorporated annually through the art Salons performed by the Museum. The first, as initial factor of formation of the collection, and the second, signed as the main alternative to its expansion. The article focuses specifically on the relationship between the museal practice, the construction aspects of art history and the artistic value definition for the objects.
